About Disco.

Disco is a form of dance music that was prominent from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. It formed out of New York City and took elements of soul and funk music and combined them with elements of salsa and Latin music to create an entirely unique sound. Lead guitars were put to the side, unlike in the popular rock scene, and electronic beats and orchestral instruments made up the majority of the sound. Disco was short-lived, but went on to inspire other popular music styles, such as house music, techno, and parts of British New Wave and certain hip-hop subgenres.

History of

Disco was birthed from the sound of New York and Philadelphia soul music. These included percussion-heavy backgrounds, which became especially prominent in the Disco sound. Major producers and record labels, such as SalSoul Records and Casablanca, helped to bring Disco into the limelight. As it grew in popularity it was mainly an underground phenomenon, though an entire subculture of Disco dance clubs popped up in major metropolitan areas. Between 1978 and 1980, many Disco songs where at the top of the charts, and the movie "Saturday Night Fever" pushed the movement into mainstream culture. After that movie, many people felt Disco was becoming tailored for a mainstream audience and therefore losing its edge. It eventually fell out of popularity because of that.

Barbra Streisand & Donna Summer - No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)

"No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" is a duet from 1979 by Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand. While Summer was famous for her disco material and Streisand for her more easy listening and soundtrack work (though both had crossed over into other genres before), this song fused both sounds with a slow beginning (lasting almost two minutes) which then evolved into a disco song. The song then becomes something of a feminist anthem with two women taking action against their men and throwing them out.
